A little while ago, my husband and I were traveling over to central Oregon for the weekend and I was knitting in the car…as usual. We rode along in silence for quite some time when he said to me, “Do you ALWAYS knit?”
I know, I know! I took a deep breath and then kindly told him that yes I do knit a lot of the time. Knitting is my job. If I didn’t knit during car trip, movies, at stop lights I wouldn’t get my work done. I have designs to create and samples to knit, not to mention any gifts I might have in mind for people. He was silent for a bit and then he said, “Okay, I get it. I didn’t realize that all of this was like a REAL job. Thanks for clearing that up for me.”
Now I’ve been knitting for a long time and designing since 2011. There is a lot of knitting going on in this house, not to mention the computer work on pattern formatting, emails, swatching, researching, etc. At some point in the last 4 years I’m sure I mentioned that I was selling these patterns that I was coming up with. One would think that in that time he might have noticed that I was taking this pretty seriously.
That being said, I do take this knitting thing pretty serious and there is a lot of stuff that goes alongside this designing thing. There is a lot to fit into each day and some of it just gets pushed to the back burner… like this blog. My best intentions are to blog at least once a month but you know what they say about the road to hell…
Enough about what I haven’t gotten done lately. Let’s talk about what I have gotten done: a few new patterns!
Up first: Ric Rac.
Ric Rac is a great cowl that was inspired by the ric rac that my mother used to sew onto everything she made for me. It’s a super easy to memorize stitch pattern and can be worked as a tradition cowl with 200 yards of worsted weight yarn or a little longer with 400 yards. It’s a pattern that I designed to show off Knitted Wit’s Worsted Superwash. It will be on display at TNNA and I’ll be there in Lorajean’s booth. If you’re headed to Columbus I’d love to see you!
Up next is Same Time Next Year.
This is a design from Marcy and I (Adventure Du Jour Designs) and we designed it in Miss Babs’ Sojourn. That yarn is amazing!
And last, but not least is Road Trippin’.
This is another design from Marcy and I . This time we worked with Black Trillium’s Prime (gorgeous, by the way). It uses 2 skeins of fingering weight, either 2 solids or as you can see above, one solid and one variegated. It’s been a long time since I worked with variegated yarn and now I remember how much I love it! I’ll be working with more of it the future.
So, as you can see my job has been fairly busy and pretty productive. I hope you’ll excuse the missing blog posts over the last couple of months. I’ve had my hands fairly full. And tomorrow morning, bright and early and I do mean early, I’ll be on a plane for TNNA. I’m sure I’ll be coming home with a brain full of inspiration and a suitcase full of yarn. Stay tuned!
