…happy new year and a bit of housekeeping…

Happy New Year!  We have just come through possibly our best holiday season ever.  Everyone was here and boy did we have a good time especially with the grandkids.  There is nothing like seeing the holidays through the eyes of a child to get you to remember what the season is really all about.  IMG_3864

The house is pretty bare and very quiet now that the decorations are down and the grandkids have gone home.  This time of year is always hard for me.  I love all of the craziness and fun that surrounds the holidays so when it comes to a halt it takes me a little time to adjust.  But on to the next great thing…

The Rose City Yarn Crawl is coming March 5-8 and the Mystery Knit-A-Long is gearing up!  The pattern is available here.  You’ll get the pre-clue now and the first clue will come January 28th.  This will give you time to select your yarn, get your needles, swatch and be all set when the first clue comes out.  I can’t wait to see which yarns everyone picks and if you are inclined, join me at the cast-on parties:

January 28th – Twisted ~  5-8 pm

January 29th – For Yarn’s Sake ~ 4-7:30 pm

I’d love to see you at one of these parties!  I’ll have some prizes and can’t wait to see which yarn you have chosen!

We’ve just finished up the Shifted Shades KAL with Black Trillium.  If you missed the pattern you can find it here and if you would like the yarn (which is gorgeous) you can purchase it here.  I love this pattern and it has become my go to, car knitting project.  I want to thank Melanie for including me in her KAL calendar for 2014.  It was a pleasure!

So that’s the house keeping portion of our program.  Now on to the next things on my list…preparing for Madrona and a couple of new patterns coming soon!

May your 2015 be your best year yet!

…there’s a KAL in my future…

So guys, there a KAL coming.  It’s the Rose City Yarn Crawl Mystery KAL and guess who the designer is this year?  Yup, it’s me.  I’m super proud of this design and I so wish I could show you what it looks like but then where would the mystery be in that?  So you’ll have to settle for this:

You can sign up, choose your yarn and purchase the pattern beginning December 5th and the first clue will be out on January 28th!  Go here for more information.

If you are interested, there are 2 Cast-On parties planned:  January 28th at Twisted from 5:00 – 8:00 pm and then on January 29th at For Yarn’s Sake from 4:00 – 7:30 pm.  I’d love to see you at on of these parties and there will be fun and prizes at both!

I’m also going to be at Knit Purl on February 4th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm doing a meet and greet and would love for you to drop by there too!

So much to look forward to in 2015!

Now I’m off to teach High Tech Crafting: Knitting with your iPad at Twisted this evening from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.  If you’re in the neighborhood stop in and say hello!

…Wanda Estelle…

Finally, I am so please to introduce to you Wanda Estelle!

knit in Valley Yarn Amherst ~ colorway charcoal

knit in Lisa Souza BFL Sport (held double)

Named after my great-aunt Wanda, this wrap features an intricate cable pattern running along the edge of a stockinette body.  The wrap slips easily over your head as an elegant accent to any wardrobe.  It’s knit using approximately 800 yards of a worsted weight yarn and is the perfect option when a coat might be too much.   Beautiful and elegant, just like Wanda Estelle herself!

p.s.  That great photo of me?  That was taken by my friend Marcy when we were at Rhinebeck this year.  Thanks Marcy, I love it!

…home again…

I’m home after our Emergency 911 retreat at Port Ludlow.  Now begins the mountain of laundry, the phone calls to return, the bills to pay and basically the getting back to reality.

Steph and I seem to say this every time we finish a retreat:  “Well, that was the best one yet.”  And again it was.  We had a great teachers, smart retreaters, beautiful meals, yarn bombing, a community marketplace, a float plane, wonderful goodie bags,  and a fire fighter or two…

yes, that says Manly on his coat…

Steph and and I have also said over and over again that this is really the best gig out there. We are so thankful for the people that make all of this possible; The Resort at Port Ludlow, the teachers, the companies and people that donate to our goodie bags, the vendors that come to our small community marketplace,  and most of all the retreaters that come (some of them EVERY SINGLE TIME).  It really is the best of everything.

So, back to reality.  If you need me I’ll be in the laundry room.

…how time flies…

Jeez, I can’t believe it was BEFORE I left for Rhinebeck that I posted last.  What was it that John Lennon said? “Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans”? Yeah, that.  And believe me, there are a lot of plans being made.

I’m not even going to tell you how things went down on my east coast trip.  I’ll save that for another post.  Just know that it was one of the best trips of my life.  More on that later.

Up first, Silver Fern is now available for purchase!

DSC_0015This is a design that I did for the Miss Babs Knitting Tour.  You all know how much I love gradients and Babs does them very well.  Go here to see the yarn. Gorgeous!

I’ve been busy with a couple of new designs that are humming along.  The first is Wanda Estelle, named after my wonderful great-aunt Wanda.  I’ve had this one going for some time and just haven’t been able to get it released.  You know, life…..  No photos yet, but soon.  I hope (fingers crossed) to have it done and ready for sale before Thanksgiving.

I’m also working with my BFF Marcy on a collaborative design that should be out soon.  We found some yarn when we were together in New York and in about 15 minutes we came up with what we wanted to do, and do it together we are!  I can’t wait for you to see it!  Soon!!

I’ve also started teaching a new class!  Designs from Nature and Architecture is the class I taught in April at the Strung Along Retreat (know there as Walk on the Wild Side – where we did take a hike looking for inspiration).  There is no hike involved in this class but people do bring photos that they want to use for inspiration.  We look at how to translate what we see out there into stitch patterns.  It’s great fun and I love teaching this class.  If you think your LYS might be interested in this email me!  If you are interested in taking the class I will be teaching it at For Yarn’s Sake in Beaverton tomorrow. (go here and scroll down for information on signing up!)

I’m also so happy to tell you that I have been asked to teach at Madrona again!  You can go here to see the class schedule.  I have 2 different 3 hours classes and a 90 minute mini class!  I’m super excited about this.  Madrona is one of my favorite events!

Last, I’ll be leaving for our next Strung Along retreat next Thursday.  Emergency 911 is our theme and it’s going to epic.  I can’t even talk about how many fantastic things we have planned.  Look for info on our Facebook page or follow us on Twitter at @StrungAlongLLC to see what we are up to!

Wow, this all makes me tired.  But it’s a good kind of tired!  And just around the corner….Christmas.  I think I need to lie down…
